Week 4 Results: Top 14, here we come!

I don't know why, but I was extra nervous that Kloe would end up in the bottom 3 this week. There are only 7 couples left, and out of all the performances I thought Kloe and Jonathan received some of the worst feedback from the judges. Luckily my fears were unfounded and their fans pulled through. Kloe and Jonathan escaped the bottom 3 for the fourth week in a row!

This week's group routine was a Broadway number arranged by Sergio Trujillo, choreographer of “Jersey Boys” and “Memphis”. The up-tempo dance was set in a speakeasy club and included lots of swing dancing and old-school hip-hop.

At the end of the night, Jesse and Kirsten bid farewell to the SYTYCD Canada stage. Next week Kloé will be back with another routine in the Top 14! The show will air on a new day - Wednesday at 8:00pm.

Week 4: Kloe dances New Disco

Partner: Jonathan
Genre: New Disco
Choreographer: Melissa Williams
Song: If I Had You - Adam Lambert

We're into Week 4 now and Kloé is in the Top 16! That's the good news. The not-so-good-news is that she and Jonathan were chosen to dance yet another obscure genre this week: New Disco. This particular genre is so new and obscure that even the judges have admitted to not really understanding it. Choreographing the pair this week was Melissa Williams, and they danced to the Adam Lambert hit "If I Had You".

I liked this up-tempo number that saw the duo donning sexy black outfits and performing some pretty cool moves - one of which saw Kloé twirled down to the ground and pulled across the floor by her partner. Some really great stuff was in there; even a lift or two for good measure! How it will connect with the viewers, however, is yet to be seen. The pair haven't ended up in the bottom 3 yet, but as the contestants dwindle down, they're more and more likely to end up there. I do think that viewers who have previously voted for Kloé and Jonathan won't be disappointed in their performance!

When it came to the judging there were mixed results again this week, and I could tell that none of the judges really loved what they saw. Stacey Tookey started off with some confusing remarks, saying "Wow, ok, um... you guys just really performed that." I'm not quite sure what 'really performed' means, but it definitely wasn't glowing praise. She did go on to note that they were really into the character of the piece. Directing comments at Kloé, Stacey told her she really embodied the choreography but wanted her to fill it out a little more.

The other judges seemed to want more of a connection between the duo, but I saw no problem with that. From the first week I've thought that Kloé and Jonathan have had good chemistry on the dance floor. I hope they get enough votes tonight to move on to the Top 14.

What's Kloe most proud of?

Before Kloé got down with the West Coast Swing in Week 3 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 3, she was asked what she is most proud of in her pre-dance segment:

"The one thing I'm most proud of is how mentally prepared I was for the competition this year. I've just gotten better with my confidence and just keep telling myself: you can do this."

I was glad to hear that she feels more ready for the competition this year than she would have been had she made the show in seasons 1 or 2. While it must have been disappointing for her at the time, it's nice that she can look back and appreciate what that extra time has given her.

Week 3 Results: Kloe stays safe into the Top 16

As we get deeper into the competition, the results shows become all the more tension-filled as the competitors are whittled down. This week there are 9 couples left and 3 of them will be chosen to dance for their lives. That means there's a 1 in 3 chance Kloé will end up in danger. Add in the fact that her and Jonathan's West Coast Swing number received mixed reviews from the judges, and I was extra nervous.

Luckily the voters pulled through for Kloé and Jonathan, as they went yet another week without a taste of the bottom 3!

The group routine to open the show this week was a Mia Michaels mod number that saw the Top 18 hit the stage in bright coloured suits. The song of choice was "Let Go" by Mitzi Gaynor.  Since there are fewer dancers in the routine this week, it was easier to spot Kloé than it was last week. The fact that she's the only blonde left in the competition doesn't hurt either.

At the end of the night it was bad news for Julia and Jera, as they were sent home this week. That means Kloé is on to Week 4 and the Top 16!

Week 3: West Coast Swing!

Partner: Jonathan
Genre: West Coast Swing
Choreographer: Benji Schwimmer
Song: Clocks - Vitamin String Quartet

Kloe Schultz is back and in the Top 18 for Week 3, where she and Jonathan danced the West Coast Swing to  an orchestrated version of the Coldplay song 'Clocks'. The number was choreographed by former SYTYCD winner Benji Schwimmer, and his dance told a story about two lovers who can only be together while they are asleep. Though they began low-key in a dream-like state, the energy quickly picked up and we saw the duo performing double somersault flips and one hand catches!

I, for one, really enjoyed the routine. I thought Kloé danced flawlessly and was very graceful in her movements. I did notice that her ankle was taped up during the rehearsal footage, as well as during the performance. But other than the bandages, you'd never know her ankle was bothering her!

On the judges front, Melissa loved the choreography, but wanted to see more connection between Kloé and her partner. Personally, I didn't have any problem with that aspect of their dance at all. She also noted, however, that it was one of the most difficult pieces in the show and how clean their performance was. Tre called their number "entertaining" and gave them a "good job" for their efforts. Jean Marc thought that while it may not have been their best performance, they "did a great job... overall."

Here's hoping Canada connected with their performance and throws a lot of votes their way. I sure put in my share!

Blast from the past... Kloé's Season 2 audition video

This video goes back a year to Kloé's SYTYCD Canada Season 2 audition. At the time, I thought she should have made the finals, but the judges thought she needed a bit more work.

She didn't make the Top 20 last year, but it was all for the best because she's back and better than ever this year!

Week 2 Results: Kloé's safe again!

Wednesday night was the second results night of the season. I find that this time of week is always the hardest to watch. But with Kloé having a strong Jazz routine this week, I was fairly confident she'd be safe. Luckily, I was right - Kloé is safe for the second week in a row!

I know it's still early in the competition, but with none of the dancers really that much weaker than any other, I never know who's going to end up in danger. Aside from just being safe this week, I think it's a great sign that Kloé and her partner weren't even in the bottom 3! There was also no mention of Kloé's ankle injury - and in this case I think no news is good news!

The group routine this week was Bollywood, choreographed by Longinus Fernandes, who worked on the film “Slumdog Millionaire.” Kloé was dressed in a green outfit and had her hair coloured black for the number. Unfortunately there are still too many dancers at this point to really tell who is who during these group routines.

At the end of the show, host Leah Miller announced that Bree and Yonni were eliminated from the competition. On to the Top 18!

Will Kloé's ankle hold up?

After Kloé's Jazz performance this week, we heard judge Jean-Marc say that he heard she was "dancing on a very, very bad ankle", to which Kloé acknowledged with a nod. Although it was not noticeable to me during the routine, I could tell by the look on her face that she was definitely struggling through something.

While Kloé may have injured her ankle to some extent, it thankfully wasn't bad enough to force her out of the competition the same way Shelaina left the week before. That's the good news. What worries me now is how the ankle will fare going forward. I don't think the dancers get much time off before it's time to start rehearsing their next number. Let's hope she can get some rest in and get it healed up.
